Faqs

Q: How often should I pump my septic tank?
A: The Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection recommends that a properly maintained septic system should be pumped out at least once every 3 years.

Q: How long should I expect my septic system to last?
A: The lifespan of a septic system can vary widely (15-40 years) depending on many factors, the most important of which is proper care and maintenance of the system.

Q: When do I need to inspect my septic system?
A: If you own a home with a septic system or cesspool and plan to put it up for sale, add a bedroom, or change its use, you will need to get a system inspection.

Q: What does a septic system inspection entail?
A: Septic system inspections require the inspector to locate, open and inspect the septic tank inlet and outlet lids, the distribution box and the soil absorption system. If the groundwater elevation is unknown we may have to dig down to verify that the system meets the required separation between the bottom of the S.A.S. and groundwater.

Q: How long does it take to install a new septic system?
A: Depending on the complexity of the site the installation can be as quick as one day or may take a few days if extensive site work is required (i.e. removal of trees, removal of material, relocation of utilities).
